The purpose of these classes is to provide quality hands-on classes in the art of sewing.

Knowing your Sewing Machine and Serger - Time to take that sewing machine “out of the box” that’s sitting inside the closet and learn how it works. Learn about the different presser feet and their functions, and how to correctly care for your machine.

Serger Basics 101 – Let’s learn the basics of using your serger. Learn how to properly thread and take care of your serger. Learn basic techniques such as rolled edges, corners, decorative edges, and more.
For those with a 5-thread and coverstitch serger, learn how to convert easily and quickly to a coverstitch, and how to use those coverstitches beyond the basic hemming and edging.

Sergers-Beyond the Basics – This is a two-day class with techniques learned the first day and a simple serger project finished the second day. Perfect those techniques on your serger and create your own sample notebook. Learn perfect double rolled edges, basics of flatlocking, gathering, quilting, shirring, scarves, pintucks, darts, using your piping foot, inserting pearls, putting a zipper in, how to do a crocheted edge with your serger and much more. Learn how a serger can be used in not only garments, but home dec, quilting, and heirloom work. Let’s go beyond the basic owner’s classes

Heirloom Serger — Have you ever thought about heirloom sewing? How about using your serger? Yes, you can! By using one serging technique, you too can create a beautiful heirloom project. Everyone who has a serger can do this. Create a beautiful adult’s nightgown or a pair of pj’s for you or your child (grandchild). Kit will be provided (pattern, laces). Learn basic serger heirloom techniques the first day, and construct a beautiful heirloom project on the second day. This is a Martha Pullen licensed class.

Basic Sewing I– The purpose of this class is to acquaint the beginning sewer with the basic skills necessary for a well-constructed project; and to give the more experienced sewer new skills for refining their project/garment construction. This class consists of three (4) four- hour sessions; and should be taken before Level II.
Section 1 is a basic techniques class with focus on the workings of a sewing machine and the different functions of presser feet. Section 2 will focus on what a seam is, different types of seams, seam finishes, hems, the importance of staystitching, understitching, easing. Section 3 will continue with more techniques such as zippers, mitered corners, grading, darts, and buttonholes, mitered corners, zippers, hems, and much more.
You will construct a notebook with these techniques as a reference guide, and should have a basic working knowledge of your sewing machine. If your sewing machine is new or you haven’t yet taken it out of the box, or just need a review, please bring your sewing machine manual also. Techniques will be shown enhancing the basic usage of your sewing machine.
No fabric is required for this first level. Kit will be provided. Supply list upon sign up

Basic Sewing II – This class is a continuation of Basic Sewing I with an emphasis on more techniques beyond the basics. Phyllis will inspire you with her years of experience, and help nudge you out of your current sewing comfort zone! There is a total of 4 four- hour sessions. There will also be a field trip to the fabric store for selection of patterns and fabric for your desired project.

Embroider This – have a new embroidery/sewing machine, and have no idea where to start? Learn the basics of stabilizers – what they are, how to use them; Correct design selection to fabric, Placement, and much more.
